History of Violations in NY Elevator Accident Case | NY Attorneys

Reports show that there was a record of safety issues with the midtown Manhattan elevator that crushed an employee to death on December 14, 2011. City inspectors had logged 11 violations involving elevators at the Madison Avenue tower where the fatal accident, in which a 41-year-old advertising executive was crushed to death, occurred. Several other employees on the elevator witnessed the horrific event, and required psychological treatment for emotional trauma.

Elevator accidents are often deadly, and can cause extreme emotional trauma to anyone who survives or witnesses the accident. When the accident is caused by negligent maintenance of the elevator, injury victims and their surviving family members deserve compensation for their loss. If you were injured or a loved one was killed due to an elevator or escalator malfunction, an experienced NY personal injury attorney can help you get compensation for your medical bills, lost wages, physical pain and emotional suffering. Don’t delay! You must file a lawsuit before the statute of limitations expires. Call (212) 226-2400 today!

Hybrids Safer in Auto Accidents | NY Auto Accident Attorneys | Brooklyn Auto Accident Lawyer

According to a recent report by the Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI), an affiliate of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, hybrid vehicles are safer than traditional gas-powered vehicles in car crashes. HLDI studied U.S. crash data involving all types of vehicles, and concluded that occupants of hybrid vehicles were 25% less likely to suffer injury in crashes than occupants of gas-only vehicles. The reason for this is that the batteries that power hybrids cause them to have 10% higher vehicle weight than other passenger cars, which provides a higher degree of protection to drivers and passengers in hybrids during an auto accident.

While hybrids may be safer for vehicle occupants, they pose a greater risk of injury to pedestrians. Hybrid vehicles are 20% more likely to be involved in pedestrian crashes, according to the report. The reason for this is that when operating in electric-only mode, hybrids make very little noise compared with conventional fuel vehicles, which makes them difficult for pedestrians to hear. To address this issue, Congress has given the Highway Traffic Safety Administration three years to develop a plan for equipping hybrids and electric cars with a device that will alert unsuspecting pedestrians that a vehicle is approaching.

Be careful- Slip and Fall, Car Accidents and other accidents can happen due to the surprise snow fall in October in New York

As I am looking out the window today, I am amazed to see that it is really snowing very hard. It is certainly surprising that the snow is coming down and it is only October.

When it snows in the middle of winter, we are usually ready for it. In the winter those with the duty to clear the snow and ice may be ready to do that.  But since today’s snow fall is so early I suspect that many of those who have the duty to clear the snow and ice may not be fully prepared. If they are not prepared, and don’t remove the snow and ice as they are supposed to do and you are injured as a result, you may have a valid claim to make.

If you do slip and fall or you are involved in a car accident due to the snow and ice and suffer injuries, please call Hecht & Hecht, LLP at 212-226-2400, we may be able to help you. You may have a valid claim that can be made.

Have fun out there, but be careful.
